Samsung LN52A650 Review
I’m no techno wizard just a guy wanting an exceptional picture from his TV.I’ve had Samsung’s LN52A650 LCDTV for about three months and I continue to be astonished with its performance. The clarity and especially the color contrasts are remarkable. I find myself watching HD programs I wouldn’t have been interested in before but with the LN52A650 and HD the dynamics have greatly changed. I haven’t experienced any technical glitches to date. Prior to buying I was worried about purchasing a large and expensive item via the internet yet this TV was worth every penny and dealing with Amazon was very satisfactory.
After 3 weeks of gruelling research, I shortlisted Samsung LN52A650, Panasonic Th-50PZ800U and the Sony XBR series. After watching them all side by side, I dropped Sony off the list as it is simply not worth the price & it wasn’t as bright as the other two. And since I had owned a Panasonic EDTV for last 4 years, I was ready to test waters with an LCD TV. After watching the picture quality of the Samsung 6 series, I was blown away. I can confirm to you that this unit offers the best picture quality in LCD, bar none. Also, it comes really close to the Pioneer Kuro in black levels.
Just wanted to give a hat tip to Amazon for delivering this in excellent condition and great service. I was worried buying something like this over the Internet that it may come damage are be too big for my wife and I to handle. But it arrived perfectly and the shipper (CEVA), as part of the service, brought it in the house, unpacked and completed a basic functionality test. I was going to buy this from Circuit City or Best Buy, but after visiting both placed opted for Amazon in part because it was cheaper here, especially after tax, setup and delivery, and because I have bought hundreds of items from Amazon before. Anyway, the TV is awesome and having done my homework was no surprise. This is for those who, like me, was a little worried about shipping something so large and expensive.
Like everyone here has said, the picture quality is fantastic. But since every good review about a TV says this, let me add by saying this is probably the best LCD on the market. Sony’s XB4 might come close but given that it costs more, has less features (no USB or ethernet, less inputs), and weighs 50% more than the Samsung, the choice should be pretty clear. For those who are new to the 1080p world but are still skeptical, this is the TV that will shut up the people who say: “I don’t really see that big a difference between regular TVs and HDTVs.”
I have Comcast cable and even the regular channels look pretty good; the HD channels are stunning. If you’re still unsure, go to Best Buy or Circuit City and see it for yourself, just make sure they have it adjusted right. All in all, it’s a beautiful set, stunning picture quality, and for those who do experience the reset problem (which I did not), the firmware upgrade is simple and easy, and from what I’ve heard fixes the problem once and for all.
This TV is fantastic. Clear crisp picture makes you feel like you are there. Even non-blue ray dvd was much improved over regular tv picture. Was a little hesitant to buy such an expensive product from Amazon, but the price was several hundred dollars less than Best Buy and we also saved by not paying for shipping, delivery, or tax. TV was delivered in about 8 days. They brought it in, took it out of the box, and set it up with the satellite to make sure it worked. Overall, the TV was a great value and buying it from Amazon was a pleasure. Also, if you have DirectTV, don’t buy the expensive HDMI cable; when they came to install the HD satellit dish, they brought all the cables needed. I will now return the $80 HDMI connection I bought. The only regret is that (hard to believe) this 52″ TV is actually a little small for our large room (about 20′ x 20′).
